Multiscale beam evolution and shaping in corrugated plasmonic systems.
We analyze, theoretically and experimentally, the dynamics of the wavepackets in plasmonic beaming devices, and show that the beam evolution in this class of structures is a multiscale phenomenon, which initiates in the near-field proximity of the device, develops continuously over a new length scale many times the wavelength of the light, and is completed well into the far-field of the system....
متن کاملNonlinear Beam Shaping with Plasmonic Metasurfaces
We present here a method for generating second-harmonic beams with tailored beam profiles using nonlinear metasurfaces based on split ring resonators. By manipulating both the phase and the amplitude of the quadratic nonlinear coefficient locally, at the single inclusion level, the emitted secondharmonic wavefront is perfectly controlled. These concepts are demonstrated experimentally by the fa...
متن کاملOptical Design of Laser Beam Shaping Systems
An overview of the history and current practices of laser beam shaping is presented. When diffraction effects are not important, geometrical methods for laser beam shaping (ray tracing, conservation of energy within a bundle of rays, and the constant optical path length condition) can be used to determine system configurations, including aspheric elements and spherical-surface GRIN lenses, whic...
متن کاملMultiscale patterning of plasmonic metamaterials.
The interaction of light with surface plasmons--collective oscillations of free electrons--in metallic nanostructures has resulted in demonstrations of enhanced optical transmission, collimation of light through a subwavelength aperture, negative permeability and refraction at visible wavelengths, and second-harmonic generation from magnetic metamaterials. The structures that display these plas...
متن کاملGeneration of Subwavelength Plasmonic Nanovortices via Helically Corrugated Metallic Nanowires
We demonstrate that plasmonic helical gratings consisting of metallic nanowires imprinted with helical grooves or ridges can be used efficiently to generate plasmonic vortices with radius much smaller than the operating wavelength. In our proposed approach, these helical surface gratings are designed so that plasmon modes with different azimuthal quantum numbers (topological charge) are phase-m...
